Biography
Max Landa entered the world on 24 April 1873 in Minsk—then part of the Russian Empire, today Belarus—and grew into a versatile force on both sides of the camera. Audiences remember his commanding presence in Cinderella (1916), his regal turn as Emperor Franz Joseph in Kaiserin Elisabeth von Österreich (1921), and the shadowy intrigue he brought to Die schwarze Schachdame (1922). Off-screen, he shared his life with actress Margot Landa, his partner in marriage and frequent collaborator. His story closed on 8 November 1933 in the alpine town of Bled, Slovenia, leaving behind a legacy etched in early European cinema.
