Biography
October 17, 1882: a winter-ready Aarhus greeted its newest son, Olaf Fønss, who would grow up to haunt the silver sheet rather than the stage boards. By 1916 he had turned the mad-scientist epic *Homunculus, 1. Teil* into a canvas for his hypnotic glare; three years later he juggled tragedy and carnival in *Bajadser*; and in 1921 he strode through tiger-haunted temples and palace intrigue as the embattled hero of *Mysteries of India, Part I: Truth*. Behind the camera he proved equally fearless, steering dramas with the same steady hand he used to duel on-screen. Copenhagen, forever the capital of his artistic kingdom, claimed him back on November 3, 1949, closing the curtain on a life lived in flickering light.
