Biography
A November child of 1875, Pablo Podestá first drew breath in Montevideo, Uruguay, and grew up to haunt the silver screen during cinema’s infancy. Audiences still remember his pulse in the 1915 chronicle Mariano Moreno y la revolución de Mayo and the raw earthiness he brought to Tierra baja three years earlier. Fate closed his final scene on 26 April 1923 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but the flicker he helped kindle survives every time those early reels spin.
