Biography
Copenhagen welcomed Preben J. Rist on 10 January 1885, and the city would remain the stage for both his first breath and his last, taken on 12 February 1967. Between these two dates he built a life behind and in front of the camera, guiding performances and embodying them. Audiences of the silent era still encounter him through the money-lender of *Gobseck* (1924), the displaced souls of *Die Heimatlosen* (1918), and the biblical drama of *Maria Magdalena* (1918).
