Biography
Born in the cathedral-shadowed streets of Peterborough on 18 March 1851, Rose Coghlan stepped onto the stage just as gaslights were replacing candles and never stepped off. She survived the Victorian glare, the Edwardian blush, and the flicker of early cinema, leaving her silhouette in three surviving reels: the wilted romance of The Faded Flower (1916), the woodland mischief of As You Like It (1912), and the racetrack melodrama of The Sporting Duchess (1915). Off-camera she collected two surnames—first John T. Sullivan, then Clinton J. Edgerly—before collecting memories instead. On 2 April 1932 she took her final bow in Harrison, New York, leaving the footlights humming without her.
