Biography
Paterson, New Jersey, welcomed Sidney Mason on 26 September 1886, and from that riverside mill town he set off to trade factory smoke for klieg lights. Between 1915 and 1922 he slipped into the skins of rogues, lovers, and dreamers—first beguiling audiences in The Seven Sisters, later tangling hearts in The Good-Bad Wife, and finally rescuing the title waif in Orphan Sally. Off-screen he claimed Marie Van as both leading lady and life partner, folding her into the Mason name. The curtain fell early: on 1 March 1923, Manhattan’s morning traffic stilled for the last time for the 36-year-old actor.
