Biography
Seventeen February 1866: Manhattan’s morning air cracked cold the day Vincent Serrano first opened his eyes on the island that would always claim him. Stage boards soon felt his tread, but flickering celluloid made him briefly immortal. In 1915 he stepped before the camera for *Lydia Gilmore*, planting an early flag in feature-length territory. Two years later he traded vengeance for reels in *A Modern Monte Cristo*, and by 1919 he was guiding Clara Kimball Young through the clairvoyant thrills of *Eyes of Youth*. Then the lights dimmed; New York, the only city he ever called home, drew the curtain on 11 January 1935, closing a life that had spanned the gaslight and the close-up.
