Biography
Born under the electric glow of New York City on 2 October 1892, Violet Mersereau stepped straight from crowded sidewalks into the flicker of early film. Between 1918’s heart-wrenching Together, the biblical sweep of The Shepherd King in 1923, and the imperial decadence of 1922’s Nero, she became a face audiences trusted in the dark. Fifty-three years after that first Manhattan dawn, she drew her final breath in the quiet coastal town of Plymouth, Massachusetts, on 12 November 1975.
