Vladimir Obolensky stepped before the camera three times that history remembers: in 1914 he helped bring Tolstoy’s tragic Anna Karenina to life, then a dozen years later appeared in twin 1927 releases—the Caucasus drama Bela and the brisk, faithful Maksim Maksimich.
