Biography
A Coventry Christmas baby of 1882, Will Machin traded the smokestacks of Warwickshire for the klieg lights of silent cinema. Between 1916 and 1920 he stalked the screen in three very different guises: a desert mystic in *The Garden of Allah*, a sleuth on the trail of *The Yellow Dog*, and one half of the vengeful *Corsican Brothers*. The journey ended under the perpetual sunshine of Los Angeles on 9 September 1928, closing the curtain on a life that flickered brightly, if briefly, across the flickering silver sheet.
