Biography
The year 1861 welcomed William Frederic into the world, and the footlights soon welcomed him back. Between the flicker of early cinema and the boom of Broadway, he slipped into costume for *The Prince and the Pauper* in 1915, survived a slapstick *Never Say Quit* in 1919, and prowled Manhattan’s split personality in *East Side, West Side* come 1927. On 2 March 1931, the curtain rang down for good in Astoria, New York, leaving the screen a shade dimmer.
