Biography
A Manhattan thunderclap on 15 June 1870 announced William Norris’s arrival in a brownstone just off Fifth Avenue. By the Roaring Twenties he had swapped the city’s clamor for flickering klieg lights, slipping into doublet and hose for When Knighthood Was in Flower (1922), chasing ambition aboard The Go-Getter (1923), and serenading Broadway’s brightest in My Man (1924). Off-screen he claimed London-born actress Mabel Mordaunt as his leading lady for life. The curtain rang down on 20 March 1929 in the quiet of West Bronxville, New York, but the celluloid still keeps his stride alive.
