Biography
Born in 1896, Zoya Barantsevich first stepped before the camera for the 1914 adaptation of Anna Karenina, then slipped behind the marionette strings of fate in 1916’s Marionetki roka, and vanished into the twilight of 1917’s Sumerki. Between those frames she wrote as well as performed, forging stories in the crucible of revolution-era cinema. She died in the USSR during the final cold days of December 1952, leaving the reels to speak for her.
