Synopsis
Tsar Peter’s shadow looms over a frost-laced Neva as Goncharov’s celluloid coronach unspools in sepia pulses: a boy-tsar wrestles boyars, a mistress becomes a monarch, a city of bones rises from marsh; birch smoke, cannon thunder, and the whip-crack of modernity braid into a single, trembling strip of nitrate.
