Biography
Toronto welcomed Allan Dwan on 3 April 1885, and from that Canadian springboard he sprinted into a life of storytelling on celluloid. Behind the camera he orchestrated sand-and-sword desert escapades in Bound in Morocco (1918), plotted the clock-ticking ingenuity of A Perfect Crime (1921), and guided the tragic grandeur of Panthea (1917). Off-set, two leading ladies—Pauline Bush and, later, Marie Shelton—shared his off-screen storylines as wives. Ninety-six years after his first breath, the final reel rolled on 28 December 1981 in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, sealing a legacy etched in flickering light.
