Biography
Detroit welcomed Bronson Howard on 7 October 1842, and by the time the century turned he had quietly rewritten the rules of American stagecraft. His quill sharpened society comedies—Aristocracy and One of Our Girls both reached screens in 1914—while 1920’s The Saphead carried his narrative fingerprints into silent film. Offstage, he shared life’s spotlight with Alice Culverwell; the final curtain fell on 4 August 1908 in Avon-by-the-Sea, New Jersey, but the dialogue he sparked still echoes.
