Biography
Born in the shadow of the Wasatch Range on 19 January 1883, Elliott J. Clawson traded Salt Lake City’s mountain air for the flicker of silent-era screens. Within a single whirlwind year—1928—he stamped three stories into celluloid legend: the gritty urban tale *The Cop*, the tropical intrigue of *Sal of Singapore*, and the steel-and-concrete drama *Skyscraper*. Alternately coaxing performances from actors and pacing studio floors, Clawson juggled writing and producing with the urgency of a man who sensed talkies looming. He died quietly in Vista, California on 21 July 1942, leaving behind a trio of shadow-drenched classics that still echo the twilight of silent film.
