Biography

Rosario, Santa Fe, greeted the sunrise of 2 September 1880 with the birth of Enrique García Velloso—a storyteller who would swap the quiet banks of the Paraná for flickering silver screens. By 1915 he had grafted Argentina’s founding tumult onto celluloid with Mariano Moreno y la revolución de Mayo; a year later he steered audiences through the sweeping passions of Un romance argentino. Two decades on, still behind the camera, he conjured the shimmering romance of Bewitching Kisses (1937). The lights dimmed for good on 27 January 1938 in Buenos Aires, but the images he left behind keep rolling.
