Biography
Born under the sun-baked roofs of Carcassonne on 19 May 1859, Eugène Py turned the narrow streets of his childhood into launching pads for the imagination. Crossing the Atlantic, he swapped Languedoc stone for Buenos Aires boulevards and, with camera in hand, gave Argentina its first on-screen stories. Between 1907 and 1911 he conjured three milestones: the tipsy misadventures of *Mister Wiskey*, the comedic chaos of *Cochero de tranvía*, and the rowdy gaucho sketch *Los escruchantes*. Py wrote, directed, and projected light into darkness until 26 August 1924, when he closed his final reel in San Martín, Buenos Aires.
