Biography

On the fifth of August 1850, beneath the slate roof of Château de Miromesnil in Normandy, Henri René Albert Guy de Maupassant took his first breath. The boy who would later make the world flinch and smile in the same sentence grew into a literary sharpshooter, firing off stories as swift and bright as dueling pistols. His name now rides the credits of two very different films: the 1953 rural drama La criada de la granja and the 1963 cult chiller Black Sabbath. Long after the ink dried on his last story, death closed the book for him in Paris on 6 July 1893.
