Biography

London’s grey November delivered Henry Vernon Esmond on the 30th of 1869, and the city never quite shook him off. He strutted boards, sharpened quills, and swapped jokes with the footlights until the new century called him west—first to Broadway, then to the flicker of early film sets. Audiences today still meet him in the crackle of One Summer’s Day (1917), the wit of Tense Moments with Great Authors (1922), and the breezy charm of The Truth About Youth (1930). Off-screen he shared life—and plenty of curtain calls—with actress Eva Moore. A spring escape to Paris turned final on 17 April 1922, when Esmond took his bow for good.
