Biography
Before the talkies roared in, J.E. Mathews was already etching flickers of rebellion, regret, and battlefield grit onto the silver sheet. In 1915 he let The Rebel bare its knuckles; the following year he marched with Murphy of Anzac across Gallipoli’s dunes; and by 1917 he had traded gun-smoke for the scarlet shadow of Remorse, a Story of the Red Plague.
