Biography
A winter baby born in Port Huron, Michigan, on 2 March 1874, Langdon McCormick grew up to spin storms, shipwrecks and torrents into silver-screen stories. Three decades after his 1924 silent melodrama The Torrent surged across theaters, his 1938 talkie The Storm rumbled into cinemas, book-ended by the 1926 maritime saga Shipwrecked. Off-screen he shared his life with Sylvia Bidwell, his wife and steadfast companion. McCormick’s final curtain fell on 25 June 1954 in New York City, closing a career that had turned Midwestern roots into Hollywood tempests.
