Biography
On the fourth day of May 1885, Laurids Skands drew his first breath in Denmark, a country that would cradle both his arrival and farewell. Behind the camera and beneath the ink of his pen, he spun stories that flickered onto early cinema screens—first the whimsical tortoise fable *Skildpadden* in 1915, followed two years later by the amorous escapades of *Den forelskede Gullaschbaron*, and finally the icy, windswept portrait of *Eskimo* in 1930. Fifty years and five months after that spring birthday, his own final curtain fell on 15 October 1934, still on Danish soil.
