Shreveport, Louisiana, 1877: a restless storyteller named Lee Arthur blinked into the world. By 1915, Arthur’s typewriter was already rattling out cinematic mischief—Cohen’s Luck and The Mystery of Room 13 both leapt from page to screen that year, gifting early-movie audiences plots packed with hustlers and locked-door riddles. Two years later, the irreverent comedy Bab the Fixer carried Arthur’s name into theaters, cementing a reputation for whirlwind yarns spun at breakneck speed. Off-duty, Arthur shared life—and, no doubt, late-night plot twists—with wife Alice Brown. The final curtain fell on 10 December 1917 in Los Angeles, closing a brief but bright arc that had helped shape the grammar of silent-era Hollywood.
