Biography

Mary Rider stepped before the camera just as the silent era found its voice: first as the grieving mother in *Gladiola* (1915), then trading winter for hope in *The Snowbird* (1916), and finally lighting up the tenements of *Sunshine Alley* (1917). Three films, three swift seasons, and she was gone—leaving only the flicker of her face to speak for her.
