Biography
On 12 August 1876, Allegheny City—now Pittsburgh’s North Side—became the opening chapter for Mary Roberts Rinehart, a storyteller who would turn crime into high art. Decades later, her whodunits leapt from page to screen: The Nurse’s Secret (1941), The Bat Whispers (1930), and, posthumously, The Bat (1959). Off the page, she shared her life with husband Stanley Rinehart. The final curtain fell on 22 September 1958 in New York City, but the clues she scattered still keep readers guessing.
