Summary

In a tangled web of loyalty, love, and deception, Joe Roberts, a devoted husband and secretary to United States Senate candidate John Steele, finds himself embroiled in a scandalous murder investigation. Actress Lily Elliott's death in an apartment rented under his name sets off a chain of events that tests Joe's unwavering commitment to his wife, Mary, and his employer. Despite being subjected to a grueling police interrogation, Joe steadfastly refuses to reveal Steele's involvement in the affair, driven by a misguided conviction that Steele's campaign manager, Barnes, has informed Mary of the truth. As Joe navigates the treacherous landscape of accusations and suspicion, his marriage teeters on the brink of collapse. Ultimately, Steele's election to office sets in motion a chain of events that reunites the fractured couple, as the truth about Lily's final days comes to light.

Synopsis

Joe Roberts is devoted to his wife, Mary, and fiercely loyal to United States Senate candidate John Steele, by whom he is employed as secretary. Mary does not share her husband's enthusiasm for Steele and believes Joe false to her when actress Lily Elliott dies in an apartment rented in Joe's name. Even under charge of murder and a police "third degree" Joe does not reveal that Lily's affair was with Steele, an unhappily married man; he remains silent in the mistaken belief that Barnes, Steele's campaign manager, has told Mary the truth. When Joe is finally released, Mary is gone, but Steele learns of the situation after he is elected and then reunites the couple.
