Biography
A passport stamped Shumen, Bulgaria, 3 June 1880, announced Perry N. Vekroff’s arrival, and by the time flickering nickelodeons turned into grand movie palaces he was already bending light and shadow to his will. In 1914 he unpacked the scandalous romance Three Weeks, letting its illicit passion bloom on-screen; four years later he traded corsets for combat boots, releasing both the trench-wartime drama Men and the intimate portrait A Woman’s Experience within the same breath of 1918. Director, scenarist, relentless imaginer—Vekroff sprinted through the silent era until 3 January 1937, when the California sun set over Hollywood and the final title card of his life quietly faded to black.
