Biography
A Halloween baby of 1886, Theodore A. Liebler Jr. first drew breath in Brooklyn’s brisk October air. Three decades later he was putting breath into characters of his own: in 1905 he mapped out the earliest celluloid clues for the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, followed the Pharaoh’s footsteps in Joseph in the Land of Egypt (1914), and capped the silent era with the ambition-soaked drama Success (1923). Ninety-one Octobers later, the curtain fell on the same season in Manhattan, just across the river from where his story began.
