Biography
Born in Besançon on 7 September 1866, Tristan Bernard spent his life turning Parisian streets into staccato dialogue and silver-screen laughter. Between café tables and theatre spotlights he crafted the scripts for Playboy of Paris (1930), Le petit café (1931) and Runaway Ladies (1938), occasionally stepping before the camera himself. Suzanne Bonsel, his wife and steadfast first reader, shared the glow of the footlights until the final curtain fell on 7 December 1947, in the city that had always been his stage.
