Biography
Essex welcomed Wilson Barrett on 18 February 1846, and he grew into a restless storyteller whose pen roared louder than the stage lights. Years after his death in London on 22 July 1904, the screen still echoed him: Hoodman Blind arrived in 1913, A Man of Sorrow followed in 1916, and The Sign of the Cross blazed into cinemas in 1932. Offstage he doubled the name he loved, wedding actress Caroline Heath—twice—proving that even in matrimony he enjoyed a dramatic encore.
