Biography
Before talkies had found their voice, W.W. Young had already sent a 14-year-old Alice tumbling down a rabbit hole; his 1915 cinematic daydream, Alice in Wonderland, still stands as the first American feature to chase Lewis Carroll’s improbable white rabbit through the looking-glass. Fifteen years—and a revolution in sound—later, Young returned to the screen with The Mystery of Life, a 1930 exploration of science and existence that proved his curiosity had never stopped leaping fences.
