Biography

On 2 February 1879, Copenhagen welcomed Hjalmar Davidsen into the world; by the time the city recorded his farewell on 7 February 1958, he had left it flickering with images of its own streets and stories. Behind the camera he shaped Denmark’s early cinema, steering the bittersweet romance of Hans Kæreste (1918) and the fairy-tale intrigue of Prinsessens Hjerte (1916), while also conjuring the dreamlike reverie of Lykkedrømme that same year. Director, producer, quiet architect of moving shadows—Davidsen’s legacy still runs frame by frame through Danish film history.
