Biography
On 29 June 1878, San Giorgio di Lomellina welcomed a restless dreamer named Umberto Paradisi. He grew into a filmmaker who stalked the Italian silent era like a shadow with a lantern, guiding cameras through the soot-streaked alleys of The Chimney Sweeps of the Valley of Aosta in 1914, then turning his lens on the savage fable La donna e i bruti six years later. Between these he stitched a cinematic love letter from south to north—A noi! Dalla sagra di Napoli al trionfo di Roma—chronicling 1922’s pulse from Neapolitan festival to Roman triumph. Actor, director, alchemist of light, Paradisi’s story dimmed on 21 June 1933 in Turin, but the flicker he kindled still dances across the century-old frames he left behind.
