Biography
A winter baby born in the North Carolina mountains on 27 February 1884, William J. Bauman swapped Bakersville’s quiet peaks for the flicker of silent-era arc lights. First stepping before the camera in 1915’s The Silent Voice, he soon slid behind it, marshaling actors like chess pieces for From Broadway to a Throne (1916) and tightening the suspense of The Avenging Arrow (1921). Nearly eight decades after that frosty birthday, he drew his final breath in Los Angeles on New Year’s Day, 1960.
