Big Chief Koko

In this 1924 Fleischer classic, the boundaries between reality and the drawing board dissolve when a Native American artist visits Max Fleischer’s studio to present a painting. The narrative takes a surreal turn as Ko-Ko the Clown, the studio's mischievous ink-born mascot, decides to inhabit the role of a cartoon indigenous figure portrayed in the artwork. This act of identity-theft sparks a vengeful pursuit by the original cartoon character, who breaks free from his prescribed lines to hunt down Ko-Ko and his canine companion, Fitz. The film serves as a meta-commentary on the creative process, where the artist’s tools become weapons and the characters refuse to stay within their borders.
