Buster's Girl Friend

In this 1926 silent short, Buster Brown’s attempt at backyard theatrical greatness is unceremoniously derailed by a neighborhood rival. The film opens with Buster staging an amateur play for his peers, featuring his loyal canine companion, Tige. The production quickly turns into a vegetable-strewn catastrophe when a local bully—the 'fat boy'—begins heckling the star performer with a barrage of produce. The conflict moves from the stage to the streets when the bully lures Buster's sweetheart, Mary Jane, to a local amusement palace. Buster, finding himself penniless at the ticket booth, is forced to rely on the street-smarts of Tige. In a surprising narrative turn, the dog raids a local gambling circle to secure the quarter needed for Buster’s admission, leading to a final confrontation within the funhouse walls.
