Steve Lannon, a figure once defined by the swift justice of his six-shooter, has consciously shed his outlaw past, seeking a quiet anonymity in the urban sprawl of San Francisco, far from the dusty trails of his Nevada ranch. This self-imposed exile, however, is abruptly shattered by news from the frontier: his former domain is under siege by ruthless rustlers, and, more personally galling, his prized horse, Silver, has been stolen.
