Curses of the Witch

Set against the unforgiving, jagged beauty of the Finnish Lapland, Curses of the Witch (Noitakirot) follows a hopeful young couple, Utu and Selma, as they attempt to carve out a life on a remote homestead. Their domestic aspirations are quickly smothered by the suffocating weight of an ancient transgression. Centuries earlier, the land was desecrated by a shamanic curse, a vengeful spiritual tether left behind by a wronged witch. As the couple settles in, the film transitions from a pioneer drama into a psychological nightmare. The curse is not merely a ghost story told by the locals; it manifests as a corrosive influence that turns the environment itself into a predator. The isolation of the Arctic wilderness becomes a mirror for their fracturing sanity, as the past refuses to stay buried in the frozen earth.
