Summary
Robert Dunning, a once‑prosperous financier, is driven to suicide after a duplicitous Wall Street broker siphons his fortune, leaving a void of grief and fury. Marcia Dunning, his bereaved wife, channels that anguish into a calculated vendetta, infiltrating the glittering underbelly of a high‑stakes gambling house as a roulette croupier. There, she encounters the broker’s son, a reckless heir who frequents the tables, and employs a magnetized finger ring to rig the wheel, prompting the son to betray his father and precipitate his financial collapse. The plot thickens when Marcia discovers her own daughter has clandestinely wed the very scion she is tormenting. In a desperate bid to protect her child, she implores the casino’s partners to restore the young man’s losses. One partner refuses, while another—smitten with Marcia—risks his share against the dissenting faction and loses. Undeterred, Marcia stakes her very being against the triumphant partners, stripped of her cheating device, yet triumphs through sheer resolve. In the denouement, she returns the reclaimed wealth for her daughter’s sake and unites in marriage with the devoted partner, completing a narrative arc that intertwines revenge, redemption, and the capricious spin of fate.
