My Country First
Summary
In an era of burgeoning global tensions, Frank Draper, a brilliant and fiercely patriotic American inventor, perfects a revolutionary explosive, a potent instrument of national defense he intends to gift his homeland. His altruistic aspirations are violently derailed when, in a chivalrous act defending a virtuous young woman from the sinister machinations of an unseen adversary, he inadvertently becomes entangled in a grave criminal offense. This wrongful conviction unjustly incarcerates him, transforming a national benefactor into a confined pariah. Observing this disruption to their elaborate schemes, a clandestine network of international operatives, eager to acquire Draper's potent invention for a foreign power, cunningly orchestrate his dramatic prison escape. However, his newfound freedom is but a cruel illusion, as he is immediately seized and held captive by these same conspirators. The young patriot is then confronted with an agonizing Sophie's Choice: to preserve his own life by betraying his nation, or to sacrifice himself for the enduring security of his country. Unwavering in his devotion, he chooses the latter, his vitality ebbing away as he languishes, bound and helpless. Yet, in a climactic eleventh-hour intervention, just as hope seems lost, he is miraculously rescued. Gratefully embracing his liberation and restored to society, Draper fulfills his original noble intent, bestowing upon his grateful nation a formidable deterrent. His monumental contribution is met not only with profound national gratitude but also with the tender affection of the very woman whose honor he once so valiantly safeguarded.
