Summary
A wedding-cake tower of mishaps teeters from the first frame: Cliff Bowes, that human coil of nerves, has gambled away the ring fund and must woo the colossal, irrepressible Babe London down the aisle before her apoplectic father, Max Asher, detonates. Geraldine Karma drifts through parlors like a perfume-clouded ghost, trading secrets for champagne, while Monty Banks pirouettes in and out of dumbwaiters, tuxedo flapping like a surrender flag. The plot pirouettes from pawnshop to bridal shop to courthouse, each locale a new trapdoor: a mislabeled marriage license, a runaway horse-drawn cab, a jewel heist timed to the wedding march. By the time the veil catches fire and the cake avalanches into the street, every character has swapped partners, secrets, and trousers, yet somehow the cathedral bells still ring—just not for the couple anyone expected.
