Summary
In the shadowed parlors of a 1923 silent tableau, Max, a restless provocateur, intrudes upon a mystic’s séance, intent on unsettling the fortune teller as she delivers a cryptic card reading to the ethereal Ko‑Ko. The spectral protagonist, ensnared by malevolent phantasms that stalk the liminal cartoon realm, slips through the veil and infiltrates Max’s domestic sphere, sowing chaos with mischievous glee. Yet the fortune teller’s benediction—an ancient curse woven into the very fibers of the tarot—tightens around Ko‑Ko, binding his otherworldly escapades to a fate that teeters between redemption and perpetual torment. As the narrative spirals, the viewer is drawn into a chiaroscuro of superstition, slapstick, and psychological dread, each frame a meticulously composed vignette that interrogates the thin line between illusion and reality.
