Summary
In a remote, rural town, a mysterious figure, Jim Carvel, emerges, renting a cabin on the outskirts of the woods under the guise of a wolf hunter. Unbeknownst to the townsfolk, his true intentions are far more complex, driven by a desire to bring justice to a community terrorized by a corrupt sheriff and his lieutenant. The narrative unfolds with the introduction of a young girl's brother, who, burdened by debt to the corrupt lawmen, is coerced into robbing the local bank and planting explosives in the vault. Jim, however, intervenes, saving the day by retrieving the stolen money before the explosives can detonate. As the story reaches its climax, Jim finds himself surrounded by the sheriff's mob in the girl's home, only to reveal his true identity as a U.S. Deputy, appointed by the village judge to restore order. The film culminates with the arrest of the corrupt sheriff and his aide, and Jim earning the forgiveness of the girl, whose brother's actions were a direct result of the corruption they sought to escape.
