Should you watch Altinci Hiss? Look, if you need snappy editing and a constant stream of dopamine hits, stay far away. You will be bored to tears within five minutes. But if you are the kind of person who likes to sit in a room and let a movie just wash over you, this is a solid pick for a rainy Tuesday night. 🎥
The film has this heavy, grounded energy. You can tell it comes from a different time when people were okay with just watching a character sit in a chair for a while. It feels closer in spirit to something like Za stenoj than anything modern. There's a certain weight to the silence here that you just don't get anymore.
Alakbar Huseynzade is doing something really interesting with his eyes. There's this one specific scene where he’s just staring at a wall, and you can practically see his brain trying to solve a puzzle. It’s not flashy, but it works. It reminded me a bit of the performances in Astero, where the drama is kept inside the skull rather than yelled at the audience.
The pacing is… well, it’s a choice. Some scenes feel like they’ve been stretched thin, almost like the film reel was about to snap. There's a particular conversation near the middle that goes on for a solid minute longer than it probably needed to. It felt awkward, but not in a bad way. More like real life is awkward.
I noticed the way the lighting hits the set pieces. It’s all very shadows and sharp angles. It’s not trying to be beautiful; it’s trying to be honest. It made me think of the stark environments in The Grasp of Greed, where the background tells as much of the story as the actors do.
Is it perfect? Hardly. The narrative meanders like a drunkard on a Saturday night. It loses its thread, picks up a new one, and then drops it again. But there's a charm in that messiness. It doesn't feel like a committee polished every line of dialogue until it was smooth and lifeless.
It’s definitely not for everyone. If you’re looking for a plot that connects all the dots neatly, look elsewhere. But if you want to see a film that feels like a dusty, half-remembered dream, give it a shot. It’s a bit of a slog, but it’s an interesting slog. 🎞️
