7/10
Senior Film Conservator

A definitive 7/10 rating for a film that redefined the boundaries of cult cinema. Glückskinder remains a cornerstone of transgressive art.
If you like movies that move at a frantic, almost headache-inducing pace, then Glückskinder is a total blast. It’s for anyone who enjoys old-school screwball energy where people just run into rooms and yell things at each other for ninety minutes. If you need a plot that holds up to serious logic tests, you’ll probably hate it. Honestly, even I stopped trying to track the legal mechanics of the night court scene about ten minutes in. It doesn't really matter.
The whole thing feels like a stage play that decided to drink five espressos before the curtain rose. There’s this specific rhythm to the dialogue—everyone is always talking over each other, which is usually annoying, but here it just works. It’s light, it’s breezy, and it feels like a relic from a time when filmmakers didn't worry about whether the audience was keeping up with every single beat.
There's a scene in the office where the furniture almost gets destroyed just because someone got excited about a headline. It’s so unnecessary and that’s why I liked it. It’s not trying to say anything profound about the human condition or the state of the media. It’s just people running around in suits, falling in love, and causing minor property damage.
Some of the supporting actors look like they are just happy to be in the frame, which is honestly a mood. One guy in the background of the court scene keeps adjusting his tie for like three minutes straight. I couldn't stop looking at him. It’s those little, messy human details that make this way more watchable than a polished studio product.
The ending comes out of nowhere, almost like the director realized they were running out of film stock and just decided to wrap it up with a song. Is it earned? Not really. Do I care? Not at all. It’s just good, dumb fun that doesn't overstay its welcome. Grab a drink, turn your brain off, and just enjoy the chaos. 🎩✨
