6.1/10
Senior Film Conservator

A definitive 6.1/10 rating for a film that redefined the boundaries of cult cinema. Razbudite Lenochku remains a cornerstone of transgressive art.
Honestly, only if you like movies that feel like a fever dream you had after eating too much cheese. If you enjoy dry, weird Soviet comedy, you'll probably get a kick out of the absurdity. If you need a plot that actually makes sense or characters that behave like humans, you’ll hate it. 😴
The whole premise is just absurd. You have this girl, Lenochka, who is clearly not a schoolkid, and the local adults are acting like the world is ending because she’s hitting the snooze button. It’s got that specific, dry vibe you sometimes find in movies like The Blue Light where things just don't follow normal logic.
I found myself staring at the background extras more than the main actors. There’s one guy in the meeting who keeps adjusting his glasses for like, three minutes straight. It’s hypnotic. Why is he so nervous about a girl sleeping in? Did they forget to pay the heating bill at the schoolhouse?
The pacing is all over the place. One second it’s a high-stakes emergency, the next it’s just people standing around looking confused. It reminds me of the way things unfold in Annette in Paradise, where you just have to go with the flow or you’ll lose your mind.
It’s not a masterpiece, and it doesn't try to be. It’s just a weird little artifact that probably wasn't meant to be analyzed by someone in the future on a screen. Sometimes I wonder if the director was just laughing the whole time they were filming.
It isn't as polished as The Raiders, but it’s got a personality all its own. Don’t go in expecting a serious social critique. Just watch it for the weirdness. 🕰️
