Biography
A prairie wind carried Al Kaufman into the world on 25 September 1888, somewhere amid the open sweep of North Dakota. By the early 1920s he had traded vast wheat fields for flickering silver screens, throwing punches and leaping hazards as the serial’s fearless hero in *Daredevil Jack* (1920). Gold fever bit him next: he chased *God’s Gold* through 1921, then laced up boxing gloves for *The New Champion* in 1925. Off-camera he claimed a different leading role, wedding Annette Seelos. Three decades later the California sun set on his story; he died quietly in Hollywood on 7 April 1957.
