Biography
A Manhattan spring delivered Alma Tell on 27 March 1898, and the city’s bright marquees seemed to whisper the role she would claim. By 1920 she was gliding through the jazz-soaked romance of *On with the Dance*, followed by the spangled melodrama of *Broadway Rose* two years later and the sharp-edged marital portrait *Saturday’s Children* in 1929. Off-screen she joined lives with character actor Stanley Blystone, a partnership sealed away from klieg-light glare. On 29 December 1937 the West Coast sun set over Hollywood, taking her final bow at thirty-nine.
